This chocolate buttercream frosting recipe is perfect for covering a cake or piping on your cupcakes. Also known as a “crusting” buttercream because it forms a crust after a few minutes. And, because it keeps its form, it is the perfect buttercream to pipe beautiful borders and make flowers to decorate any cake or cupcakes. Happy baking!

Put both sticks of room temperature butter into your mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer set on high speed beat the butter for 3 minutes or until it’s creamy and fluffy. |

Using a spatula, scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl. Add the heavy whipping cream and vanilla to the butter and beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Scrape the butter off the sides and bottom of the bowl one more time. |

Add the confectioner’s sugar and cocoa powder then beat on low speed. When the sugar has mixed in well with the butter, increase the speed to high and beat for 2 minutes. Congratulations!
