First time here? If you’re a busy mom, you’ve come to the right place! My recipes are easy to follow and contain common ingredients. I want you to be proud to serve this dish, so if you need help let me know by logging in and leaving a comment.

Steps

1
Done

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees

2
Done

In a large bowl, add flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.

3
Done

Whisk the dry ingredients together.

4
Done

Slice the cold salted butter and put the slices in the bowl.

5
Done

Here's the fun part! Using your fingers, begin crumbling the butter into the flour mixture until it starts to look and feel like coarse sand running through your fingers.

Tip: If you don't have time to "play" with the butter and flour, use a food processor or a pastry cutter to do this step.

6
Done

Using a spoon, scoop out 1 cup of the flour and butter mixture and set it aside. We will use it to make the pink/red dough in a little bit.

7
Done

Pour 1 cup of milk into the flour mixture that is still in the bowl.

8
Done

Now get that wooden spoon out and start stirring the flour and milk together to make the biscuit dough. The dough will get a little hard to stir toward the end.You know it's ready when it no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl.

9
Done

Set the bowl to the side. Clean your cutting board, countertop, or whatever surface you're working on and dry it off. Lightly sprinkle flour on your surface and pull your dough out of the bowl onto the floured surface.

Note: Sprinkling flour on your work surface will prevent the dough from sticking to it.

10
Done

Knead the dough for about 3 minutes. Set it aside on a dry plate or in another bowl. We will get back to it soon.

Note: Kneading the dough makes sure all of your dry and wet ingredients are well combined.

11
Done

Now it's time to color the remaining 1/4 cup of milk. In a small bowl, add a small amount of red gel food coloring to the milk and stir or whisk it until the milk turns pink. If you want a more red color, add more red gel food coloring.

Tip: You want to use a gel food coloring because it will not water down your milk. If you use liquid food coloring you will need to use less milk.

12
Done

In a clean bowl, pour the 1 cup of flour mixture we set aside earlier and add your colored milk to it. Use a wooden spoon to combine it all together.

13
Done

We will repeat step 9 for the pink/red dough. Set the bowl aside and clean your cutting board, countertop, or whatever surface you're working on and dry it off. Lightly sprinkle flour on your surface and pull your dough out of the bowl and onto the floured surface.

14
Done

Knead the dough for about 3 minutes. Set it aside on a dry plate or in another bowl.

15
Done

Sprinkle more flour on your work surface and place the first, uncolored dough, onto the surface. Press down on the dough to sort of flatten it a little so it's easier to roll out. Sprinkle a little flour over the top of the dough. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about 1/4" to 1/2" thickness.

Tip: Be sure your cookie cutter will cut through the thickness you roll out. You can even use a ruler to measure the height of your cookie cutter to make sure you roll the dough out to the correct thickness.

16
Done

Great job!!! You're almost there! Now, let's get your pan ready! Cut a piece of parchment paper to a size that fits your cookie sheet or baking pan.

Note: Using parchment paper will do three things. One, it will prevent the bottoms of your biscuits from browning too quickly. Two, your biscuits will come right off the paper without having to use a spatula. Third, your pan will be so much easier to clean! Saving you time and energy.

17
Done

Using the large circle cookie cutter, begin cutting circles out of dough.

18
Done

I heart this part! Get it? (smile)

Ok, back to the instructions. Use the small heart-shaped cookie cutter and cut out hearts from the center of the large circles. Place the small hearts you've cut out onto your cookie sheet or baking pan. The hearts you cut out here can be baked as mini heart biscuits to go along with the main attraction.

19
Done

Sprinkle more flour on your work surface and place the pink/red dough onto the surface. Press down on the dough to sort of flatten it a little. Using a rolling pin, begin rolling the dough out to the same thickness as you cut the large circles.

Note: You want the thickness the same so that when you place the small heart inside the large circle they will bake to the same height.

20
Done

Using the small heart-shaped cookie cutter, begin cutting little hearts out of your dough.

21
Done

Place the large circles onto your, already prepared cookie sheet or baking pan, leaving about 1/4 of an inch of space between them. Next, place the small hearts in the center of the large circles to create your super cute Valentine's Day biscuits.

22
Done

Bake for 17-20 minutes or until lightly brown.

When they are done and still warm, slice them open, fill with butter, your favorite jelly or jam and Enjoy!!!
