First time here? If you’re a busy mom, you’ve come to the right place! My recipes are easy to follow and contain common ingredients. I want you to be proud to serve this dish, so if you need help let me know by logging in and leaving a comment.

My kids, like most, love hot dogs. Hot dogs with the usual toppings like ketchup, mustard, and chili are the norm at our house. My boys also love the movie Cars. So, one day I thought I’d surprise them and make them Hot Dog Race Car dogs instead of plain ones. I also drew a race track with ketchup and mustard on their plates for added fun.

Needless to say, they flipped out! lol Both boys started racing their hot dog race car around the ketchup and mustard track saying “Vroom Vroom!”

These hot dog race cars are super cute and fun! And you need only a few items to build them. Hot dogs, hot dog buns, pickle rings, ketchup, mustard, toothpicks, and squeeze bottles. I prefer to use Oscar Mayer Hardwood Smoked Uncured Turkey Franks since they are made without preservatives (stuff we can’t pronounce), nitrates, nitrites, or hormones. By the way, Oscar Mayer is not sponsoring this recipe, I just love the taste and quality of their franks. And I love that they care about what I feed my kids and family.

Now get ready, get set, GO! Make your littles some fun Hot Dog Race Cars!

Remember, I want you to be proud to serve this dish, so if you need help let me know by logging in and leaving a comment.

Steps

1
Done

In a sauce pan, boil the hot dog wieners for 5 minutes or as directed on the package.

2
Done

While the wieners are boiling, let's build the race track!

Pour ketchup into a squeeze bottle. Pour mustard in another squeeze bottle.

Using the ketchup, draw a large circle on the plate. Next, still using the ketchup, draw a smaller circle in the center of the plate. Finish the race track by adding mustard dashed in between the two ketchup circles.

3
Done

When the wieners are done, using tongs, place them in the hot dog buns. Do not put the hot dogs on the track yet.

4
Done

Let's get this car in motion. We need some wheels!

Lay the hot dog bun (with wiener inside) on one side. Place a sliced pickle on the left side of the bun and stick a toothpick in the center through the bun and wiener to secure the pickle. Do the same on the right side of the bun.

Holding the bun in your hand or sit it upright on a clean surface, add two more "wheels" on the other side of the hot dog.

5
Done

What's a race car without paint and a driver?!?!

Using the ketchup squeeze bottle, add a head for the driver, headlights, and lines on the top front of the car. Using the mustard squeeze bottle, give the driver eyes, draw lines on the top front of the car, and draw your kid's favorite number on both sides.

6
Done

Vroom Vroom!! Your hot dog race car is done. Let the fun begin!
